Equipment:

Our wonderful equipment managers have received a new batch of equipment!  If you are needing anything from helmets to socks and everything in between, please contact Starr at 250-787-3043.  Our next skate rental and equipment sale will be held during practice on September 29th from 7-8 pm.  If you have any used equipment that you would like to sell/swap please bring it along on the 29th and help out some of the new families as Cradles and Group 2 starts up the next evening!

We are also looking to find out if anyone is interested in doing skate sharpening for the younger kids.  Please email info@fsjspeedskating.com to let us know if you are interested in earning a little bit of money doing this job this season and we will circulate your name to the younger groups!

Remember that all skaters must wear the appropriate gear!  This included a helmet, protective glasses, cut-proof socks & gloves, a neck guard and knee/shin pads.  Also make sure you protect your skate blades with skate guards – do NOT walk around on the bare blades!

Electronic Timing:

For those of you who have been following us for a while you may have heard that we have been working towards getting an electronic timing system.  Well that timing system has finally been ordered, we are getting there!!

Canada Cup:

We will be hosting a Canada Cup at our wonderful facility this season!  Dee-Ann Stickel will be having a meeting on Monday, September 29th shortly after 7pm to begin planning this event.  We would love to have you join in this planning meeting as many hands make light work.  Even if you are new to us, come and join the meeting and see what is involved in hosting a meet of this size!

Other Important Info:

The next available registration time will be on Monday, September 29th at 6:45 – 7:45.  If you know of anyone who hasn’t registered yet or anyone who would like to learn to skate, this is their chance!  For more info contact Jill at martinsfamily@shaw.ca

We hold a club meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in the timing room beside the oval, the meetings begin at 6:30 and they last about an hour to an hour and a half (the next is October 8th).  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend, the meetings are a great way to get to know our club a little better and they are full of information!

Mr. Kok (the coach for Group 2) will host a skate sharpening clinic and a parent orientation meeting at a date tbd sometime in October for all new parents.  He will also host a clinic called the “Level 1 Clinic”  which is a great introduction to the sport of speed skating and the meets and what to expect.  I encourage all parents to take this clinic when it is offered as it helps to answer all those questions that I am sure you probably have!

The skin suits have been ordered and should arrive mid to late October.  We may have one junior and one adult sized suit available if anyone missed out on the order.  Contact Debbie for more info deb_andy@pris.ca

Tickets are on sale now if you are interested in attending the Canada Winter Games in Prince George this winter!
