September 19, 2016 Update

Greetings Club Members! Only a few things to include in today’s update.

Tentative start date for remaining groups

Our coaches have been busy juggling ice times and schedules (Thank you coaches!!) and it sounds like all groups that have not gotten on the ice yet will be starting on Tuesday, October 4th. Our next weekly update will include more detailed information including times and ice surface for each group.

Fundraising

There have been some questions and concerns about the new fundraising requirements and format. Attached you will find a fundraising tracking chart that Corrie Bennie will be updating and sending out to everyone on a monthly basis. As you complete your required fundraising blocks, Corrie will mark this on the tracking chart. Once you have completed all of your required blocks, a checkmark will be placed in the salmon coloured box on the far right. You will find the number of fundraising blocks required for each group in brackets in the group name box. If you want to find out what you have completed, find your child’s group and name. group-lts-1-block-chart

I have attached the Fundraising FAQ once again as it explains the block system quite well. A post dated fundraising cheque should have been given to the club as part of registration so if you do not want to take part in our fundraisers you can request that the club cash this cheque to pay out your blocks. fundraising-faq

Note: The club will have 3 fundraisers this season. Mega Lottery tickets (now), soup kits and tea (coming in November), and Purdy’s chocolates (Easter). You can spread your fundraising blocks throughout these fundraisers or complete all blocks in one fundraiser.

Registration

If you haven’t already registered online – please do so when you have finished reading this email! The link is https://mms.speedskating.ca/Account/Login and we need each skater to register on line AND please remember that we need at least one parent/guardian to register as an Associate with our youth skaters. I have attached instructions to this email if you need them. registering-online-for-speed-skating2016

FUND-RAISING!!

We have a new fund-raising system this year – read here to find out more!  fundraising-faq

MEGA LOTTERY
I hope you have all received your Mega-Lottery tickets?!  If not please see Starr Guliov to give her your fund-raising deposit and to receive your tickets. We are doing things differently this year and will be requiring every skater to sell a certain number of fund-raising “blocks”. Each block is worth $50 (most skaters will need to sell 4 blocks) and we will be offering a few different fund-raising options in which to earn those blocks, starting with Mega-Lottery. Please read the attached letter for more information.
Starr will be at Group 3 practices this Monday Sept 12  & Wednesday Sept 14 from 7:00 – 8:00 if anyone wants to come down To Pomeroy Sport Centre to pick up tickets.  She will be at Group 1 & 2 practices when they start up. Parents can also email to arrange alternate pickup times if that works. Email darstarr@pris.bc.ca.
If you would like to sell your tickets at the Mega Lottery table in the Totem Mall, spots are available. The Totem Mall September Mega Lottery Schedule is attached.  Please Let Starr know dates and times that work for you if interested.

Weekly Update Nov 9/15

Fort St. John Short Track Interclub

Congratulations to all the skaters who participated in the Short Track Interclub Meet we held on Saturday!  We had around 60 skaters participating and there were some very exciting races to watch!  A lot of hard work and determination showed with some awesome skill and I saw some excellent displays of good sportsmanship and camaraderie, you should all be really proud.

Also a big “Thank You!” to all the volunteers who helped make this such a successful and exciting event.  All your hard work was evident and appreciated.  It takes around 40 volunteers to run these events and we had a lot of new club members helping out and mentored by those who have been with us for quite a while!  It was a long day and you all did great – thank you!  Also thank you to those who donated food – it really does help the volunteers make it through that long day!
