October 6/14

Hello Everyone,

Sorry for the delay in getting out the weekly update this week!

Schedule Changes:
We are sorry for the scheduling changes that have been happening.  These changes are beyond our control as the other arena that houses the figure skaters has been having ice making difficulties and the City is having to shuffle everyone in order to accommodate all the groups into the Pomeroy Sports Centre.  We have another change this week on Thursday, October 9th.  Could the Group 2 & Cradles group please arrive a little bit earlier than usual to help set up the mats (skating begins at 6pm) and Group 3 will be skating from 7 – 7:45.  We are hoping to be back to our regular schedule soon!

Mat Set-Up:

Please arrive a little bit early for short-track practices to help set-up the mats as well as clearing up after the last group is done.  If you aren’t sure what to do just head down to the end of the rink and there are big stacks of mats on trolleys.  These trolleys are wheeled onto the ice after the zamboni has finished and the mats velcro together along the boards.  Many hands make light work and this job can take only a few minutes if we have enough people to help.  Thank you!

Mega-Lottery:

We have some mall time slots available through October if you are still needing to sell your tickets!

Oct 7    2-4pm

Remember that all skaters must wear the appropriate gear!  This included a helmet, protective glasses, cut-proof socks & gloves, a neck guard and knee/shin pads.  Also make sure you protect your skate blades with skate guards – do NOT walk around on the bare blades!

We hold a club meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in the timing room beside the oval, the meetings begin at 6:30 and they last about an hour to an hour and a half (the next is October 8th).  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend, the meetings are a great way to get to know our club a little better and they are full of information!

Mr. Kok (the coach for Group 2) will host a skate sharpening clinic and a parent orientation meeting at a date tbd sometime in October for all new parents.  He will also host a clinic called the “Level 1 Clinic”  which is a great introduction to the sport of speed skating and the meets and what to expect.  I encourage all parents to take this clinic when it is offered as it helps to answer all those questions that I am sure you probably have!

The skin suits have been ordered and should arrive mid to late October.  We may have one junior and one adult sized suit available if anyone missed out on the order.  Contact Debbie for more info deb_andy@pris.ca
